People saw Sarah Jessica Parker looking natural, without much makeup, and she had some gray hair. Some people online criticized her for it, so she had to defend herself.

Sarah Jessica Parker became famous for playing Carrie Bradshaw, a fashionable character on the TV show “Sex and the City.” But in real life, some people criticized her for not being stylish. When she played Carrie, she wore some of TV’s most famous outfits, and many women admired her for it. They saw her as a trendsetter who used fashion to express herself and show her love for high-end clothing.

NOT SO FASHIONABLE IN REAL LIFE

Even though her character on the show made many women think about fashion all the time, Sarah Jessica Parker herself has never been super interested in fashion in real life. In a 2012 interview with People magazine, she said that she didn’t feel a personal connection to Carrie Bradshaw’s fashion style. She said:

“It’s not how I think of myself, and I think it’s probably the healthier approach.”

Don’t get it wrong. The actress likes wearing nice clothes and enjoys pretty things, but she’s not like her character. You won’t see her wearing a tutu while grocery shopping. She thinks fashion is not as important to her now because:

“It’s just not a reality — not when you have three kids, and you go to the market, and there are hungry people at home. You have a limited time to do it. There’s just no time to let vanity enter into that.”

People have noticed the way she dresses over the years. In an interview with Vogue for their “Life In Looks” segment, she mentioned that some people have made fun of her fashion choices, which she finds amusing.

Over the years, the actress has faced a lot of criticism for her fashion choices, especially for what she wore to the Met Gala, which got a lot of attention. She explained that sometimes you wear something because it feels right to you at that moment, but there will always be people who don’t like it.

She thinks people have the right to criticize, but she doesn’t get why they do it. She believes you wear something because you like it, so why criticize? She’s not bothered by what critics say anymore. For her everyday outfits, she just wears what she likes and doesn’t worry too much about whether it matches or not.

In addition to facing criticism for her fashion choices, Parker also had a tough time when she found out that she was voted the “Unsexiest Woman Alive” in a Maxim poll. The poll said she didn’t match what people thought was sexy, like having Botox injections and big lips.

She thought it was really harsh and upsetting when a magazine for men called Maxim said she wasn’t sexy enough. This hurt her a lot, and it also affected her husband, actor Matthew Broderick. Then, things got worse when the paparazzi took pictures of her having lunch with Andy Cohen from “Bravo.” She wasn’t wearing makeup, and her gray hair was visible, and people said mean things about her because of it.

After the pictures were released, people criticized her for having gray hair and called her old. Andy Cohen, who also has gray hair, stood up for Parker and questioned why he didn’t get criticized for his hair. He called the comments “misogynistic,” meaning they were unfair towards women. Parker didn’t just ignore the criticism. She defended herself against the haters in an interview with Vogue Magazine.

“It’s like some people don’t want us to feel completely okay with ourselves. It’s like they almost like seeing us upset about who we are, whether we decide to let ourselves age naturally and not look perfect, or if we do something to feel better about ourselves,” she said, adding:
“I know what I look like. I have no choice. What am I going to do about it? Stop aging? Disappear?”

That was, however, not the last she’d hear of the degrading comments. In 2018, the actress again faced fire after going to the Met Gala donning an ornate nativity headpiece. People took to social media to make fun of her skin, calling her a senior citizen.

CHOOSING FAMILY OVER FASHION

Even though she’s faced criticism for her fashion choices, the actress from “Honeymoon in Vegas” has stayed true to herself, focusing on what’s most important—her family. During the 2006 New York fashion week, instead of going to the big event, she stayed home with her family. Her son James, who was three at the time, had just started school, and she needed to take him there every day. Nowadays, going to events is a bit tough for Parker because she’s a mom of three. Her first son, James Wilkie Broderick, was born on October 28, 2002, and he’s now studying at Brown University in Rhode Island.

Their second set of children are twin girls named Tabitha Hodge Broderick and Marion Loretta Elwell Broderick. They were born on June 23, 2009, with the help of a surrogate mother. Even though some of Parker’s fans have both loved and criticized her, her husband, Broderick, has always been there for her. Broderick, known for his role in “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” and his wife have been deeply in love since they first met in the early 1990s.

They tied the knot in a surprise wedding ceremony on May 19, 1997, and have been going strong since. Surprisingly, Parker disclosed that the secret to such a long and happy union is their ability to spend time apart. She said on the Sophia Amoruso’s Girlboss Radio podcast, as Oprah Daily reports:
“I know this sounds nuts, but we have lives that allow us to be away and come back together.”

heir relationship has been everything they dreamed it would be, and Broderick could not stop gushing over how much of an impression Parker made the first time he saw her.

He recalled their first date, saying he clearly remembers her walking down the street towards the movie theatre. “It’s very unique because I wouldn’t remember most people the first time I saw them come down the street. [But] I remember it as clear as day.”
